Some familiar pieces were on display, but also some! stunning new work. Isobel charmed the crowd in her own inimitable way, displaying some devilish new work where on earth did she find room ? The whole thing went off without hitch and the assembled audience loved it.

Celtic Tattoo Designs

Mind you, he did look a bit pained when he eventually slid off the table. After the judging cover ups, the bar reopened, so we downed a: few pints with relief after all, as everyone knows, snapping is thirsty work I! Whilst we did so, the Can Can girls showedj their stuff, immediately followed by the tat show and the prize giving.

Tattoo Parlour

Whilst we were in with the judges, Sneaky Pete snuck off the stand and approached Michael and Bob of Basingstoke with an Indian and eagle’s head design of his own creation. He then proceeded to spend the next four or so hours ‘relaxing’ under the gun, whilst we worked our nuts off.

Tattoo Drawings

We were privileged to be allowed in to the prejudging, and proceeded to make a right pain ourselves by leaping on the contestants after the panel had finished with them, and persuaded them to stand in front of a lairy blue background.

Tattoo Clothing

A tattoo show I think not, and that was that… no licence was forthcoming. This was nothing more than a mild irritation as the show was such good fun, and we were too busy rabbiting to people.

Dragonfly Tattoo

The temptation was too much for our Sophie; hence Bald twins in tattooed head scandal. Les who ran a tarot and palm reading stall also had his head done he woke up on Sunday morning to find his pillow firmly stuck to it, and had to prise it off before he could return to the con vention.

Aztec Tattoo

The main entertainment were the popular choice, the stonking rock duo. The Sunday was a far more hectic affair, with at least twice the amount of people to pester to have their picture taken.  Colin Carl was caught having a scorpion tattoo attached to his head. After taking his picture, his identical twin brother appeared, also with a tattooed bonce.

Scorpion Tattoo

The entertainment for Saturday night was provided by ‘The Liberty Morris Men, a group of biker Morris dancers a truly unique sight to behold ! They dragged Sophie ‘on stage’ to humiliate her in fine style ! Unfortunately, as she’s the photographer, you’ll have to buy AWOL magazine to see the embarrassing pictures.

Flower Tattoo Design

And what better advertisement than one in living colour ? The artwork was a familiar theme a merman and mermaid swimming (? well I was being polite !), surrounded with a border of brilliant sea horses and coloured coral, done by Derek Campbell of Hayes.

Feminine Tattoos

This was taken from the Changes Two album cover, to grace John Dockrell’s thigh. Why ? Well, John is the country’s top dealer, so thought it was a good gimmick to help his sales pitch ! It certainly caught our attention. Down one corridor, we encountered Siouxsie, with the most incredible vibrant full back piece, who handed us a card, presenting herself and the artist.
